    lol … it would be like an alien species flying around in a floating spaceship over a city and using a floodlight that emits powerful xrays to view everything around it, blasting everyone with radiation that will make everyone sick and unwell … all the while the aliens capturing documentary footage of this planet full of life they’ve never seen before.

    IIRC a study did show that does fuck up a lot of them. I can’t remember if they are temporarily or permanently blinded, but it’s not great for them.

        That’s still amplifying light that is there. In total blackness they still don’t work. In very low light they generate a lot of visual noise. You’d need to provide some kind of light source for this no matter what.
